Stroberg announces Kansas House District 114 candidacy
HUTCHINSON, Kan., Sept. 1, 2019 -- Jeff Stroberg, Reno North Township, has announced his candidacy for the 114th Kansas House District seat in 2020. He filed on June 27.
District 114 includes all of Kingman County, western Reno County, including the city of Nickerson and some areas in Hutchinson, and portions of southern Rice County, including the city of Sterling.
Stroberg, 63, retired from working in the food industry and as a CPA seven years ago.
“After moving back to the only place I ever really thought of as home, I realized the community I live in had not taken full advantage of opportunities to grow like other places in Kansas had. I know that working together with the people in District 114, I can improve this situation using my experience in business, accounting and administration,” Stroberg said.
Born in Reno County, Stroberg attended Buhler High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kansas State University.
“My career took me away from home. Now that I’m back, I want to find solutions to the issues that effect the people of District 114 and all of Kansas,” Stroberg said.
Stroberg said he wanted to make sure the state has a strong healthcare system and that it is available to everyone. “I will advocate for affordable, accessible healthcare for everyone,” he said. He also would like to see Kansas farmers and the agriculture industry better supported. “They need to be able to sell their crops and other products,” he said. As for education in Kansas, Stroberg said schools must have what they need so graduates are “prepared to compete at the highest levels.”
A primary election for Kansas’ legislative contests is scheduled for Aug. 4, 2020. The general election, which includes the election for the U.S. presidency, is on Nov. 3, 2020. Stroberg filed his candidacy for Kansas House District 114 more than a year ahead of the elections. “I want to go out and talk to constituents. I want to listen to their needs and hear from them how they would like to be better represented in the Kansas Legislature. I’ve met so many wonderful people already and I’m looking forward to getting to know even more over this next year,” Stroberg said.
